On the first day, the Vice-Minister met with representatives of trade unions, associations and the authorities of the city of Katowice.
“The Social PRE_COP24 is an opportunity for an international exchange of views on climate protection in the context of social and economic aspects," said the Vice-Minister of Environment.
During the opening of the conference, the Vice-Minister emphasised the important role of climate in the transformation process.
“Our task is to ensure a fair and inclusive transition that protects the climate while sustaining economic growth and jobs. Growth should be responsible in terms of economy, society, environment and climate,” said the vice-minister.
“The Polish government holds the opinion that socially and environmentally sustainable development with emphasis on modernisation, technological transition and the use of innovations enabling more efficient and environmentally friendly use of resources should be the way forward,” said the Vice-Minister of Environment.
The conference is a joint initiative of three Trade Unions Centres: All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions (OPZZ), Independent Self-governing Labour Union “Solidarity” and the Trade Unions Forum, as well as the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians and the “MINING OK” (GÓRNICTWO OK) Group of Common Social Initiatives operating at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
The aim of the event is to present the long-term achievements of global trade unions and employers in the field of climate change, as well as to present and discuss their positions in relation to the conference to be held in Katowice.
