Volunteers’ presence at various international conferences is a vital element of the event’s success. Their solid presence during the COP shows an active civil engagement in environmental matters.
COP24 will take place in Katowice from the 3rd to the 14th December 2018. 30 000 participants from almost 200 countries will arrive to decide about the most important directions of climate protection. COP24 will be attended by the representatives of governments, diplomacy, NGOs and researchers, business and other groups interested in solutions to climate changes. More information about the conference you will find on: www.cop24.katowice.eu and www.cop24.gov.pl
„Preparation of such a huge event is a logistics challenge which requires contribution of many people from the country but also volunteers. Thanks to them, visitors of COP will move around the city easily and enjoy attractions prepared for them,” said Agnieszka Lis, the Proxy of Katowice City Mayor for NGOs.
For the COP 24, The City of Katowice will be recruiting volunteers to support a range of operational tasks throughout the event. The scope of activities for volunteers will include: work in information centres in important COP places such as stations, airports, other communication hubs, hotels or places in close vicinity to the conference venue. Volunteers will also support exhibitions about NGOs and activists. The actions will cover the area of Katowice and Cracow.
Volunteers make up an essential component at many international events - they get involved in the organisational side of the events, are a great source of information, invaluable support for participants and create a unique atmosphere, thanks to which the guests feel "at home". If you are a team player, open to new cultures and experiences, and are not afraid of a challenge- join the COP24 - Katowice volunteers team! The main part of the conference will take place between 3rd and 14th of December, and there will also be volunteering activities before and after the conference between the 26th of November and 20th of December. In November, there will be obligatory training for volunteers which will take place in Katowice.
We invite people of legal age (you have to be 18 years old, and it is an obligatory condition) who speak fluent English, are available between 26th November and 20th December (shifts depend on declared availability). Candidates with an academic or professional background related to sustainable development, international relations, law, business or public administration, environmental studies, social sciences or other specialised fields are especially encouraged to apply. We also welcome people who have experience in volunteering, speak other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Russian, German and others) and can work in a team. Additional assets are knowledge of environment protection, international relations or international economic cooperation. We would like COP24 volunteers to become a friendly team which will make visitors feel welcome.
We have special „volunteer packets” for volunteers which will consist of a uniform, badge, souvenirs and a certificate. We provide a hot meal and drinks, insurance and free travel pass. We can also provide documents of participation for student apprenticeship for those interested. Volunteering at COP24 provides a chance to participate in the international event, get experience and gain new skills as well as a chance to meet new people.
