Rafał Bochenek Minister’s Plenipotentiary for the Organisation of COP24 on behalf of the Minister of Environment signed an agreement with the Poznan International Fair (Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie – MTP) under which MTP will take care of the logistical organisation of COP24 − the most important international forum devoted to global climate policy.
The 24th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) and the 14th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP14) and the 1st (part 3) Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA1.3) will be held in Katowice from 3 to 14 December 2018. The capital of Silesia will be visited by nearly 30,000 representatives of governments, diplomacy, inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations as well as, scientists, activists, business representatives and other stakeholders interested in issues related to the climate. Representatives of all the Parties to the Convention, namely, 196 countries and the EU, will decide on further action to protect the climate, especially on the form of implementing the Paris Agreement. COP24 will be attended by heads of state, prime ministers and ministers responsible for the climate and environmental issues, yet, the Conference will be attended also by scientific, social, and commercial events serving as a forum for presenting and exchanging ideas, innovations, strategies, and solutions aimed at combating the global warming.
MTP will manage one of the most crucial parts of the preparations – namely, the technical and logistical organisation of the venue, including the design and construction of temporary facilities for conference rooms, offices for delegations and exhibition pavilions.
The decision to entrust the organisation of the Conference to MTP was taken in result of a procedure carried out by the Ministry of Environment based on the so-called special act (Act regarding special solutions related to the organisation of the session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). MTP has extensive organisational experience managing 100 trade events annually and a number of international congresses and conferences, and has already been involved in the organisation of the two previous COPs in Poland. In December 2008, MTP and the Poznań Congress Center located on the MTP fairgrounds hosted the 14th session of the Conference of the Parties. MTP's highest organisational quality was then appreciated by the representatives of the United Nations, the Polish government and the participants of the event. As the result, the Ministry of Environment entrusted MTP with the logistical organisation for the following UNFCCC Conference − COP19, which was held at the National Stadium in Warsaw in 2013.
