Delegates discussed the biggest negotiation challenges they will face at the COP24 summit in Katowice. Four issues have gained particular importance. These were issues related to climate financing, transparency of actions taken, adaptation and emission reductions. PreCOP participants were invited to take part in four working groups where these issues were discussed.
As the Polish Presidency, we have created an atmosphere of constructive dialogue, testing equal possible solutions and building compromises. Undoubtedly, however, there is still a huge challenge ahead of us. We have many hundreds of pages of difficult, technical text ahead of us, which we are negotiating - emphasized the Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Environment, President of COP24 Michał Kurtyka.
The meeting ended on Wednesday. Its participants, aware of the challenges ahead of them, unanimously admitted that achieving a positive result of COP24 in Katowice is within their reach. However, in order to achieve this, mobilisation will be needed to bring the positions of the Parties closer together.
PreCOP is a meeting of representatives of world business and government delegations from more than 35 countries preceding the COP24 climate summit in Katowice. Its open formula creates a space for inspiring discussions, exchange of arguments and development of solutions before the start of formal negotiations in their full dimension, among almost 200 countries during the December COP24.
