COP24 Katowice

Council of Presidents of the COP meeting in Warsaw

The hosts of the previous climate summits – Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Salaheddine Mezouar, Laurent Fabius, Prof. Maciej Nowicki, Prof. Jan Szyszko, Marcin Korolec and the current President of COP Michał Kurtyka met on the 2nd of July 2019 in Warsaw on the eve of the “People and Climate – Solidarity and Just Transition” conference, organised by the Polish Presidency.

The Presidents of COP debated about the challenges of global climate policy and the ways of supporting Chile in the preparations for COP25. After adoption of the Paris Agreement by the international community the next step is its implementation enabled by the Katowice Rulebook. In this process it is crucial to take into account the social transformation aspect of the way to a low-carbon economy.
Good practice in this area will be addressed at Wednesday's conference "People and climate - solidarity and equitable transformation".
The Council of Presidents of the COP brings together the Presidents of the past climate summits, making up an advisory and consultative body with a broad reach and global authority, as well as a space for exchanging experience regarding hosting the UN climate summits. It also supports the process of defining the challenges and opportunities facing the international community.
