COP24 Katowice

Polish Presidency’s Statement on the Progress in Negotiations

Polish Presidency informs that a preliminary version of the package implementing the Paris Agreement, has been worked out.

Several days of intensive work has produced results in the form of closing particular areas. In two weeks a whole range of fundamental as well as very detailed and technical issues constituting a complicated and very difficult document were discussed.

The Presidency is currently consulting the text with the negotiating groups. The first open consultation took place yesterday. The Polish Presidency is committed to ensuring that all groups are heard and that the final version of the document is the result of a consensus that satisfies all those involved. It is so important because in the rules elaborated in Katowice the Parties shall adopt a path that each of them will follow for the intensification of their climate protection efforts. The objective of the negotiations is to arrive at a balanced text that equally safeguards the interests of all the Parties. The Parties have demonstrated their willingness to reach an agreement but, the last phase of negotiations is usually the most difficult and intensive.
