COP24 Katowice

Vice-minister Michał Kurtyka was a guest at the 14th Global Conference of Youth for Climate Action

The 14th Conference of Youth climate summit finished at the Silesian University in Katowice. COY14 is a three-day international summit which proceeds the deliberations of the United Nations Conference for climate change – COP24.

María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the United Nations General Assembly, Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Michał Kurtyka, Secretary of State in the Environment Ministry who assumes the function of President of COP24, took part in the COY14 concluding session.

Key climate policy issues of both regional and global dimensions were discussed. Young people spoke about ocean pollution, methods for reaching the sustainable development goals, and climate change social aspects among other topics.

– When you are young, you are creative and innovative. The international community needs both features as living organisms need fresh air. We need them in science, politics, and business, so that the world can develop in a sustainable and fair way – said the vice-minister Michał Kurtyka to the people gathered.

The aim of COY is to motivate youth to commit to fighting climate change and give them a space to brainstorm about global climate policies.
